Reviewer Guidelines
Peer Review Process
JENT employs double-anonymous peer review. Neither the authors' identities nor the reviewers' identities are disclosed to each other during the review process. Each submitted manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. The Editor-in-Chief or an Associate Editor oversees the process and makes the final publication decision based on the reviewers' recommendations.
Reviewer Responsibilities
The journal advises all reviewers to accept articles for review only if the research theme matches their area of expertise. Reviewers are requested to be fully aware of their responsibilities in reviewing articles and providing constructive feedback. Reviewers shall manage time efficiently and adhere to the deadlines; if a review process demands a longer duration for thorough and complete scrutiny, the reviewer shall discuss the issue with the Editor-in-Chief.
Review Criteria
Reviewers are expected to assess the following aspects of the submitted manuscript:
- scientific validity and methodological soundness;
- originality and significance of the contribution;
- accuracy and interpretation of results and data;
- clarity and quality of presentation, including figures and tables;
- appropriate citation of relevant prior work; and
- ethical compliance, including data integrity and authorship.
Reviewers should provide a structured, constructive report with specific, actionable recommendations for the authors.
Conflict of Interest
A reviewer must decline to review a manuscript if any conflict of interest exists, including personal, financial, or professional relationships with the authors or their institutions. If a potential conflict of interest is identified after the review has begun, the reviewer must immediately notify the Editor-in-Chief. Full disclosure ensures that the editor can take an informed and impartial decision regarding the publication of the article.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts submitted for review are confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or use the content of a manuscript under review without the explicit permission of the Editor-in-Chief. This obligation continues even after completion of the review process, whether or not the manuscript is ultimately published.
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tools
Reviewers must not use generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools — including large language models (LLMs) and AI-based writing assistants — to write or substantially generate their peer review reports. Uploading unpublished manuscript content to AI systems constitutes a breach of confidentiality. Reviewers may use grammar or spelling correction tools, provided these do not involve submitting manuscript content to external services.
Ethical Standards
JENT follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) for all aspects of publication ethics, including the conduct of peer review. Reviewers are expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism throughout the review process. Any concerns regarding research integrity — including suspected plagiarism, data fabrication, or duplicate submission — must be reported to the Editor-in-Chief immediately.
